Southern Mint Julep

4 ounces bourbon

1 teaspoon simple syrup

6 sprigs mint




Half fill a large wine glass with shaved ice; add simple syrup, whiskey, and mint. Muddle. Pack the glass with shaved ice and stir until glass becomes frosted. Garnish with sprigs of mint and a lemon wedge; serve with a short straw. Variation: rum, brandy, rye, or gin may be substituted for bourbon.
