Schnapps
From the German word for "mouthful," schnapps originally signified
genever gin
and tasted like aquavit.
Nowadays, though, it means just about any spirituous liqueur
that's especially sweet. Fortunately, the fine
people of northern and eastern Europe have maintained their drier,
more biting version - it's just more difficult to find.
