Fills a 9-ounce jar
2 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and diced
2 pounds tomatoes, diced
3/4 pound onions, diced
1 clove garlic, diced
1/2 pound dried fruit, diced
3/4 pound sugar
1/2 ounce mustard seed
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 pints malt vinegar
Salt
Stew apples in a deep pan until pulpy. Add tomatoes, onion, garlic, and dried fruit. Simmer mixture for a few minutes and add sugar. Wrap and tie mustard seed in muslin, and drop "bag" into mixture. Add vinegar, curry powder, cayenne pepper, and simmer for two hours, until thick and chunky. Remove muslin bag. Serve as a condiment or in Chutney Cheese Hors d'Oeuvres.
