There are often drinks which sit lonely and forgotten in some old cocktail book, just waiting to be rediscovered and brought to light. Such was the case with the Last Word. It was Murray Stenson, from the Zig Zag Cafe in Seattle who was browsing through "Bottom's Up" one night and ran across this recipe and decided to dust it off. Since then it was caught the attention of bartenders across the nation and has become "the" new drink that all craft bartenders cherrish. In "Bottom's Up", Ted Saucier has this to say about the drink:

"This cocktail was introduced around here about thirty years ago by Frank Fogarty, who was very well known in vaudeville. He was called the 'Dublin Minstrel,' and was a very fine monologue artist."
