Cynar is an Italian bitter aperitif liqueur made from a proprietary blend of 13 different herbs and spices. One of these is artichoke, which is the most prodominant, and also usually pictured on its label. From a taste perspective it is similar to Campari, but a little bit gentler. Cynar was first launchec in 1952 and became quite popular in Italy. It was once seen as a competitor to Campari, but in 1995 it became part of Gruppo Campari.
