White Whiskey

Another marketing ploy - and phrase - for the Alchemist's not-so-favorite spirit, vodka. John G. Martin, the man who first promoted this distillation in the States, stumbled across it through one of his spirits distributors in South Carolina. The warehouse's salesman had hung signs boasting "Smirnoff White Whiskey. No Smell. No Taste."

After World War II, vodka was shipped with whiskey stoppers because of cork shortages. Reportedly, the bottles reminded the salesman of his own down-home white lightning packaging.
