Ward Dunham

One of San Francisco's best-known bartenders, Ward Dunham has spent most of his mixing career behind the bar at Enrico's. Before his 20-year stint there, Dunham mixed at the Hungry Eye, where Bill Cosby got his start.

As bartender to the "Coppola crowd," Dunham is better known for his outrageous personality than the quality of his cocktails. Nonetheless, he's one of the few greats that rose out of the cocktail's darkest days, the late-'60s and the '70s. His signature drink is the Flaming Savage Motherfucker, a toasty beverage concocted on a cold North Beach night with 151, Tía María, and green chartreuse.

Also a professional calligrapher, Dunham has created fonts for Adobe. He's notorious for paring the red wax off Maker's Mark bottles for his mail art.
