Sling

A tall, icy drink made with a liquor such as gin, rum, brandy, whiskey, Pimm's, water (or soda water), sugar, and usually lemon or lime juice.

The word "sling" dates back to the late-17th century and is of dubious US origins. Some say the sling got its moniker from being a comforting pick-me-up, much like the medical contraption used to hold broken bones. Others claim that this refreshing drink's deceptive smoothness can hit you like something hurled out of a sling. We'll let you decide.

The more popular slings include the Singapore Sling, the Tom Collins, the Pimm's Cup.
